2021年に新卒採用を行う岡山・広島の企業さんを招いて開催した「学生と企業の緩やか座談会」。
今回は、玉野土建株式会社さんの座談会一回目の様子をお伝えします！
玉野土建さんは、名前の通り、玉野市を中心に建築・土木工事を行われている企業さんです。
今回の座談会にお越し頂いたのは、7代目社長の磯野社長。

会社の魅力・強みは？
学生さんからの率直な質問に、磯野社長は次の3点を挙げました。
社歴が長く、安定していること
先ほどの磯野社長のご紹介で、「えっ 7代目！？」と驚かれた方もいらっしゃるかもしれません。
玉野土建さんは大正6年創業。2020年を持って103年目を迎えた老舗企業なのです。
磯野社長によると、岡山県内の全企業数に対して、100年以上続いている企業の割合はなんと0.8％ほどだそうです。
オーナー企業ではないこと
オーナー企業とは、創業者やその親族が経営を握っている企業のことです。
「Aさんが創業者として会社を立ち上げ、2代目社長はAさんの息子であるBさん、そして3代目社長はBさんの息子のCさん…」というような、系譜を継いでいる企業のことです。
「当社はオーナー企業ではないので、社内の風通しは良い方だと思います」、「そして何よりも、入社される方全員に社長になれるチャンスがあるんです！」と磯野社長が話しました。
磯野社長も20代で入社した時に、当時の上司の方から「ここは社長を目指せる会社だよ」と教えられたそうです。
なかなか聞かない言葉に、学生さんも驚きながら笑っていました。
玉野市では名前の知られている企業であること
社名にもある通り、玉野土建さんは玉野市でのお仕事を中心に行われています。
長く続いており実績があることももちろんですが、社員の方一人ひとりが「お客様との信頼関係づくり」を心がけて仕事をされています。
一度施工をしたお客様から再度依頼を頂けたり、お客様が他のお客様を紹介してくださったり、地域の人との信頼があるからこそお仕事に繋がるケースは少なくないそうです。
気になる「活力朝礼」の実態とは…？
配布された会社のパンフレットに目を通していた学生さんから、「活力朝礼とは何ですか？」という質問が飛び出しました。
パンフレットを見てみると、社員の方がずらりと並び、何か冊子のようなものを読んでいる写真の下に、「活力朝礼」と掲載されています。
磯野社長は「実際にやってみた方が分かりますよ！」と笑顔で答え、準備を始めました。
配られた冊子は月ごとに発行されるもので、毎日一ページずつ、働く・生活する上で大切な気付きが書かれてありました。
短い内容ですが、その日のページの文章を、一人一文ずつ明るく大きな声で読んで全員で回していき、読み終わったら感想を述べていきます。
この活力朝礼では、「働く前に一度頭を整理する」、「一緒に働く仲間が普段どんなことを考えているかが分かる」大切な時間になっていると磯野社長は話しました。
また、「お客様から信頼を頂くには、技術だけでなく人間力も磨かないといけない。この活力朝礼はその役割も担っています」と教えてくださいました。
建築学科じゃなくても大丈夫…？
玉野土建さんは、施工管理の採用を行っていますが、「文理・学部問わず」募集されています。
実際に、今年の春には文系学部出身の先輩が二人も施工管理として入社されていますし、活躍されているベテラン社員の方の中にも文系学部出身の方がいらっしゃいます。
しかし、やはり全く建築・土木の分野に触れてこなかった学生さんにとっては「本当に専門外でもいいの？」と不安のようでした。
そこで磯野社長が参加者の皆さんにおっしゃっていたのは、「学生の頃に勉強してきたことは大事だけれど、社会人になってから学ぶことの方がうんと多くあるんですよ」という言葉でした。
「学生の頃に学んだ知識が社会人になってすぐに活かせる場面というものは、どの会社に入っても多くはないと思います」
「だから、学部学科によって自分の可能性や就職先の選択肢を狭めてしまうのは勿体ない」
「自分がどうなりたいか、どう生きたいかを考えて選び行動することが、きっと人生も良い方向に行くのではないかと思います」と、熱心にお話ししてくださいました。
そして、最後におっしゃっていた「もし将来全く関係ない仕事に就いたとしても、今皆さんが学んでいることは後々必ずその仕事に活きてきます」という言葉は、説得力があり、聞いている学生さんの顔も明るくなっていました。
「自分が何をしたいか？」を自問自答して明確にし、消去法ではなくしっかり「選択」していくことが大切だと私も改めて感じました。
参加者の方からの感想
- 建築関係の仕事に興味を持っていましたが、今ままでそういった企業の方と話す機会がなかったのでとても参考になりました。
- 社長のお人柄に会社の雰囲気が表れているようで、会社見学させて頂くのがより楽しみになりました。
- 「学生の時に何を学んできたかは関係ない。大事なのは何をやりたいかということ」という言葉に勇気をもらいました。
- 大学の勉強も大事だが、入社後にたくさんのことを身に付け、様々なことを学んでいく姿勢はもっと重要なことだと気付くことができました。
