選考の流れの中で、比較的多くの企業が取り入れているグループディスカッション。ODL就活Caféでも、「グループディスカッションの練習会を開いて欲しい」という声が聞こえるようになってきました。そこで今回は、採用の視点から企業がグループディスカッションを行う際に、どこに注目しているかについてお話していきます。
そもそもグループディスカッションとは
グループディスカッションは、3人～6人ほどのグループで特定のテーマや課題について話合って答えを出すという採用課題の１つです。設定されるテーマには課題解決型のものや、新しい企画を立案するもの、正解が用意されている問題を解くというものがあります。いずれも、個人で解決するものではなく、グループでの回答を求められます。
企業が注目して見ているもの
選考の過程では、グループディスカッションは一次選考から二次選考にあたる前半部で活用されることが大半です。参加人数が多い段階であるというのも理由の一つでしょう。参加者がディスカッションをしている間、数人の担当者が何かをメモしながら後ろからのぞいたり、見守っていたりすると、「どこを見られているんだろう？」と緊張しますよね。採用担当者は、いくつかの角度からディスカッション中の学生を評価しています。
積極性
集団での選考で、最も目に見えやすいのが積極性です。グループディスカッションにおいては最初に発言した人はやはり一番に目に付きます。自分から司会・書記・タイムキーパーなどの役割を担う人も積極性を感じられますが、役割を担当しなくても、メンバーの一員として積極的に発言しているかということの方が重要です。
グループの人数が5～6人以上になってくると、だんだんと発言量に差が出てきます。その際に、場に入ることをあきらめてただ聞くだけになってしまっている人は、とてももったいないです。
なぜなら、企業にとっては発言をしようとする姿勢＝選考への意欲だからです。ぜひこのことを覚えておいて、グループディスカッションの際には最後まで積極的に関わろうとする姿勢を持ってください。
グループ内での役割
それぞれが積極的な関わりを持とうとすると、発言の内容に個人の人柄や特色が表れます。
例えば、思いついたことをどんどん意見出しするアイディアマン。他の人の意見をまとめて話を進めていくリーダー的な人。話が逸れてきたときに、さりげなく軌道修正する人。持っている知識でふとした時に解決を助ける冷静さを持つ人。発言量が少ない人に配慮して投げかける人。みんなの話に相づちを打ちつつ反応する人。
採用担当者は、学生が入社後に社内のチームの中で、どんな役割を担う傾向にあるのかというところを見ています。
傾聴の姿勢と柔軟性
グループディスカッションの中で特に見られているのが、この二つです。具体的に言うと、「相手の話にきちんと耳を傾けているか」「違う意見も受け入れられているか」ということです。
学生時代は自分と近い年代や趣味・考え方が合う人と集まって過ごすことが多く、交友関係も自分で選べたと思います。対して社会に出ると、年齢や考え方が違う人たちと共に業務にあたる必要がでてきます。その際に、自分と異なる意見があることを受け止め、時にはチーム全体の利益のために自分の意見を相手に合わせる柔軟な姿勢は大きなカギとなります。
「周りの意見を差し置いて、自分の主張だけを押し通そうとしていないか？」
「相手に意見を促すことができているか？」
「チーム全員での目標達成をゴールにした行動が取れているか？」
こういった視点から採用担当者はディスカッションの流れをチェックしています。
グループディスカッションのコツはチームの利益を考えること
選考といわれると、いかにして周りの参加者よりも自分が優れていることをアピールするかを考えてしまいがちです。しかし、グループディスカッションにおいて、結果を出すことに並んでもっとも評価が高いのは、チームメンバー全員で力を合わせて課題を解決することに注力した人なのです。
